Foreigner Street
˽ is
located in the fairly remote area on the banks of the Yangtze River in Danzishi, Nan An District .
Foreigner Street is just one project in the Nan Bin Road redevelopment and is located a little downstream from the original Treaty Port foreign settlement of the early 1900's.
It may seem like an independent kingdom of expats in Chongqing but it is entirely the brainchild of Meixin Doors, a local manufacturer. It offers a platform for foreigners to start a business and has also become the biggest "English Corner" in Chongqing.
Remarkably blending eastern and western culture, the site evokes some sense of nostalgia and refreshment for visitors from home or abroad. A stroll in the area will take you through a Japanese village, a Korean neighborhood, a Western style river walk, past horse drawn carriages, a cluster of residences epitomizing Chinese traditional architectural style and even what appears to be a Communist Revolution section, complete with song and dance reenactments.
It is also the site of thematic oddities. Creatively revised classical slogans are pretty amusing yet equally enlightening. Crooked houses and world record breaking restroom are very impressive as well. It's an inexpensive place to have a bit of fun amongst the shops, restaurants and bars opened by expats in the community.
