Floating Restaurants

Chongqing is well known for its spicy Sichuan food and hotpots.

There are many restaurants of different types throughout the city from upmarket 5 star restaurants to small simple sidewalk restaurants - all dishing up Chongqing food.

Chongqing is also blessed by having two huge rivers - the Yangtze and Jialing flowing through it. Enterprising entrepreneurs have taken advantage of this to create an array of floating restaurants on the rivers.

There are two types - those that move and those that do not.

Each evening, large multistory boats leave the Yangtze River banks from near Chaotimin for a short (about two hours) cruise along the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers. A spectacular night time view is obtained of Jeifangbei from both the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers. A restaurant on board provides food and there is a bar on the top deck. So you can eat and look!

There are also several stationary multistory boats mainly located on the River Yangtze opposite Jeifangbei on the Nan Bin Lu side. To get there, go to Nan Ping over the Yangtze and down to the river bank opposite Jeifangbei. One way of getting there is to use the cable car from Jeifangbei to Nanping.

To get to these restaurants, walk along some temporary pontoons over the river to the boat. These restaurants are no different to the best restaurants on land. On the top deck outside there are a number of tables you can use. There are small individual dining rooms inside the boat. The service is first class with a large number of restaurant staff. The food is the same food you would get in a good land based restaurant.

Getting up and down the decks is no problem either. You can use the stairs but some of the boats have elevators as well.
